Townsend

Mary Kay Ross and Sue Downey descend from the Townsend family.
Milton has Townsend connections as well.

Carol Tharpe sent me the following information about her family ties:

I have ties to Compton, Mendenhall, Cook, Millhouse, and others.  This is through my father's family.  It has been interesting because my mother's family was Chenoweth who were in Berckley Co., VA around the same time.   I have concentrated on only names that fit my family tree.  I am anxious to find out more about relatives and how they are relevant to my family now.  This homecoming should provide me with much information and insight.  As a child I was a member of the New Burlington Friends Church and also attended the Ceasers Creek Friends Meeting.

From Terry R. Barnhart I have the following:

I descend from Quaker  Joseph Evans (1749-1828) who lived in Wrightsborough, GA circa 1770-1806.   He migrated through Waynesville circa 1806 and eventually settled on the Miami-Montgomery County line near Ginghamsburg.

I grew up in Miami County, OH but have lived near Denver since 1972.  Recently I was in GA and SC and visited several areas that the Quaker Evans Family lived.  I will not make the Waynesville Reunion in a couple of weeks, but I would be interested in any follow up information of its success especially if there are descendants of Joseph Evans in attendance.  I would appreciate it if you could or would post my personal contact information on my  query of this family if there is a bulletin board or publication.  I would like to meet other Evans or Buffington researchers so that we can figure out the parents of Joseph and his suspected brother Robert Evans (1744-1784) in Newberry, SC.  (Robert’s son Joseph was the founder of West Milton, OH in 1807.)

Thank you and I hope that your gathering is a great success.

Compton, Spray, Townsend, Cook from Karen Johnson:

I just want to wish you all well and say that if I could I would join
you for this reunion. I am a daughter of Mary Dorothea Cook Johnson,
daughter of George Harold Cook, youngest sibling of Dr. Mary Louise Cook
of Waynesville. I have visited Waynesville four times in the past 20
years but am unable to make it this time. While I have done only
sporadic and superficial research into my Peter and Elinor ancestry, I
recognize some of the names on the list as being those of Cook spouses
over the generations: Compton, Spray, Townsend. I believe I met Milton
Cook when mother and I visited for the dedication of the Mary L. Cook
Library in the '80's; we also met with her cousin Lawrence who was in
what was then still the Friends Home. Perhaps there were others of you
there that weekend as well, in addition to us, mother's cousins Jane and
Mildred Cook, who were raised by Great Aunt Mary, and my mother's
sisters, the twins, Janet and Frances and some of Frances's
grandchildren.
......

All my best,
Karen Johnson

  1. I'm interested in the Haskett and Lancaster families. I'm a descendent of John Lancaster and Rachel Haskett.

Did the Hasketts come to Miami Meeting?

  2. Sorry, I don't have an answer for you....I have asked the group that attended if anyone else has an answer. If I get an answer, I'll let you know.

  3. Milton, offered this information about your question:

I'll have to look it up, but I know Charity Haskett Lynch was in Waynesville and Her brother was a member of West Branch Meeting in West Milton, Ohio.
    Peace,
    Milton
